Check the sticker underside for password. Mine has separate and unique default passwords for WLAN and web interface. Serial console can be opened without login.
The serial port is, counting from top, and also pin 1, 3V3, RXD, TXD, GND - from the router's perspective.

Also, @pawol podrzuciłbyś mi na priv (albo tutaj, bez różnicy) linki do tych paczek z FW które rozpracowujesz?
In fact you need rx, tx and gnd. Gnd you can easily find by means of common multimeter. Then you have 50% to find rx/tx properly. Remember to use 3V version of ttl uart interface. When you connect wires properly then you should be able to see boot process in a terminal on speed 115200 baud.

Edit: właśnie buszuję troszkę po shellu, po ADB też wbiłem się na modem przez zwykłe `adb shell`, identycznie jak niegdyś w MF283+.
Jutro postaram się podrzucić. Generalnie poza tym nieszczęsnym i2c expanderem to pozostała część hardware nie jest niczym nowym.

A czy wiecie może jak odblokować ICMP na adres WAN?
Bardziej chcemy pozbyć sie Playa niż Nordica.

Tyle do tej pory zrobiłem. Zaciąłem się na tym ekspanderze i2c. Bez obsłużenia go nie wstaje modem.

Czyli ten AW9523/AW9523B nie działa i w sumie można na obecnym etapie to pominąć?
Ale w sumie nikt nie odpowiedział na moje pytanie , włączam MF286D , z konsoli pzechodzę od razu do uBoota ( naciskam esc) , i mam znak zachęty z uboota. Za jakiś czas modem sam zaczyna migać niebieską diodą 3G/4G i pokazuje poziom sygnału.
Więc jakby obsługa tego ekspandera wogóle nie była potrzebna....
Expander może mieć support już w uboocie.
Ale dziwne żeby uboot sprawdzał siłę sygnału lub modem w jakiś sposób sam jest w stanie sterować ledami.
No i najważniejsza rzecz , modem ma też zasilanie , i raczej z kernela nie potrzebuje jego włączenia.
EDIT: Przecież miałem takiego , który nawet do uboota nie dochodził , a radośnie migał diodami od modemu ( wysłałem go Tobie).
Piszesz o tym martwym? Nie miga, pali się tylko led od zasilania (słowo honoru że go jeszcze bardziej nie ukatrupiłem).
Bo z dobrym modemem sobie radośnie miga , a tam zdaje się dobrego nie ma....

Skoro zatrzymanie na uboocie (a nawet brak uboota) powoduje że modem startuje i pojawiają sie statusy sygnału na LEDach to oznaczałoby
to autonomie modemu/wskaźników. Musi być jakieś hw z odrębnym firmware co to ogarnia.

I wired up the serial port (RxD, TxD and GND only) and using putty I get some output from the router with 115200 8/1/N but I get some weird characters, so most text is not readable. I tried no flow control and also XON/XOFF, same problem.
Any ideas what I need to change?

Still probably not solid connections.
Maybe kernel uses a different serial baudrate than uboot.

I also have the same problem as Gerhard (the same device by mf286d by Hutchinson 3g), however I managed to get a solid TTL connection via serial.
I have read this thread and am confused by mtd9.bin, I cannot find this in the downloaded TIM firmware I have. Can someone please explain what needs to be done?
First do a backup of all your partitions.
Then root_uImage_s is partition mtd9 , web.img is partition mtd8 , and file root_uImage is partition of tatal mtd8+mtd9.
So you have two ways ,either files root_uImage_s + web.img , or one file root_uImage .

i managed to upload both mtd8 and mtd9 and did the nand erase commands you mentioned a few pages back. The router does boot but it appear to be on the same firmware it was previously and I am locked out of web gui?
do I need to do mtd0, 1, 2, 3 etc?
