Temat: Tp-link MR3420 v2 @ Huawei E3131h-2

Hello,
I'm new to this forum. Sorry, can't speak much Polish smile
I am struggling with the above setup. The modem doesn't work, whatever I try.
First I tried several TP-link factory firmwares, none of them recognized mx USB modem. Which is, to my best knowledge and according to the manufacturer specs list, is a Hilink version.
Later I tried a few other firmwares, the only one that finally made the modem recognized is the gargoyle 1.6.2.2 by Cezary. But even with that I can't connect to internet.
I am bit confused with modem setup. I tried it as GSM modem, it seems to work as the LED on the modem stops blinking and lits normally, however still no internet connection is possible and after a while the router interface becomes kind of laggy and slow in response.
If I try to set it as NDIS, it may be recognized, but of course I can't get internet connection. the router admin interface is not getting slow.
Please help. I have already been reading lots of topics of this forum via google translate, which is not easy sometimes, I chech openwrt site for help, but cannot figure it out. Some say my modem is not Hilink, others say it is.

First connect modem and show cat /proc/bus/usb/devices.

Thank you. Can you please tell me how to do that? My knowledge in Linux is pretty much close to zero and I also can't find such commands in gargoyle's GUI. I have read infos on telnet, putty, ssh, luci but I'm really lame in that. But I'm not lazy to learn smile
Shall I follow like this? https://wiki.openwrt.org/doc/howto/firstlogin
It says only ssh works in Gargoyle. OK, now I see https://www.gargoyle-router.com/wiki/doku.php?id=ssh   smile
I'll give it a try and post what I get

Few short infos FYI about this setup, Zoltan:
1. This setup - MR3420+E3131h-2 works even with the factory firmware, however it must be the newest version.
2. h-2 is not listen on the official supported hardware probably because of the issuses with stability of MR3420v2+E3131h-2 set.
3. E3131h-2 is not a HiLink - this is a regular traditional modem. H-2 version was never seen in HiLink edition.
4. Gargoyle 1.6.2.2 by Obsy supports E3131h-2 correctly, but still some stability issues may arise (after more than 24h of connection setup may hang of modem can become unresponsive).
5. For the first stage of setup stick to the regular GSM configuration - NDIS is much more complicated and may nor work out of the box for E3131 on this router.

For your problems:
- Confirm that modem with your SIM and operator works fine connected directly to the PC.
- Check and confirm that correct APN for your operator and service has been selected in the router setup.

Stable light of the LED indeed shows, that connection has been established but your operator might require more setup or extra steps to enable the connection, that's why we need confirmation, that modem and the SIM work fine.

Thanks.
Yes, the modem works fine in a PC and connects to internet with no problem at all. I use it with vodafone SIM. By the way, the modem I bought here in Budapest, but it must have come from Poland as the Windows program Play is in Polish. But I can't think it should cause any complications as the modem is SIM free.
Not hilink? It is getting even more confusing for me.
This pdf clearly says it is a hilink variety https://www.capestone.nl/files/images/H … glish).pdf

I'll post the log in the evening when I'm back to home.
Thanks you all so far.

About stability:
1. connect modem via usb hub, with own power source
2. enable Ping Watchdog, set wan reconnect
3. enable reboot, once a day (ex at night)

No, unfortunately it isn't. That's why I ask your help.

show me output.

OK, I'll try these as well. Btw, can I simply use a USB Y cable? I have one spare with one a plug only for power supply, the other plug is full functional with data flow and power.
But as the modem does not fully function once plugged to the router, I guess first the setup should make correct. I'll do the command you wrote previously and will share the results.

Zoltan,
1. Play in Poland has never offered E3131 in HiLink version.
2. To confirm this is traditional version just check, how do you set up the connection: using application (called Play Online here) or webbrowser that shows a website (usually at IP 192.168.1.1) where you can see a site that is controlling the modem. First one is normal, traditional modem, the 2nd: HiLink mode.
I cannot comment more on chaotic naming convention by Huawei visible especially in E3131 model. Here it seems HiLink is just marketing name that gives no information about real technical situation.

For me the most interesting information from the PDF you have proivided is... information that we have YET ANOTHER version in the circulation callled E3131i-2. Never seen it before.

You see, it is VERY confusing.
Yeah, I have the impression that my 3131 is indeed just a normal type. Somewhere I have read the firmware with 21.xxx is normal not hilink and it is so.

No, I can't get internet connection. The modem is recognized, but gets disconnected frequently. The led on the modem sometimes is steady on, then just blinks.
I connected it over a USB Y cable to ensure proper power supply.
Going crazy now ...

Ehm, you have normal connection. So the problem is?

Masz niepotrzebny router, uszkodzony czy nie - chętnie przygarnę go.

Not modem, just google. So you have connection? Yes or no?

a) The modem is connected to the router, seems to be all recognized, but pinging 8.8.8.8 (or anything else) gives request timed out result. I can't access any website.
b) The modem is connected directly to the pc, pinging 8.8.8.8 (or anything else) gives request timed out result. I can normally browse the web.
